Broadway Rose Theatre

Named as one of the “100 Best Nonprofits to Work for in Oregon” by Oregon Business Magazine, the Broadway Rose Theatre has been successfully producing professional theater in Tigard since 1992. As the only professional musical theater company in Washington County, it plays an important role in enriching the community’s cultural arts.

Soderstrom Architects converted an old abandoned cafeteria on the campus of Charles F. Tigard elementary school into a permanent home for the theater company. The project included a complete redo of the old building with retractable “house” seating, a refurbishment of the stage, the addition of a new entry area, lobby and concession stand and building a new scene shop. In addition, we converted the old cafeteria kitchen into offices and a donor waiting lounge.

Because Broadway Rose is a serious artistic endeavor, we wanted to create a place that was uplifting, exciting and showed a sense of real craftsmanship. The new entry sweeps up to the north inviting all who come near to join the fun. The trident shaped front column expresses the drama of the place and the metal siding of the new scene shop “freshens” up the old structural brick walls.
