Expanding Opportunities
for Hands-On Learning

Kalapuya High School CTE Classroom Addition

The new high school CTE building addition adds much-needed classroom space to support the school’s expanding career and technical education (CTE), STEM, and outdoor programs. Limited buildable space due to an adjacent protected wetland influenced the building’s simple but elegant form. The two new classrooms feature high ceilings with exposed wood beams and a roof deck that provides ample natural light and a unique character to the spaces. The science lab and STEM classrooms are designed for flexibility to accommodate new technologies and equipment. A workshop/storage area for the outdoor program facilitates hands-on learning, like building raised garden beds and planting seasonal gardens. The addition of large section doors allows the classrooms to flow out into the outdoor plaza space that connects the new building with the existing school.
